Paschal Fast

FASTING ON GOOD FRIDAY

Fasting discipline on Good Friday consists of:

  1. Fasting (abstaining from food) means that we are to have one full meal during the entire day only. Besides that, two smaller meals can be taken as well, but we should still feel hunger. It binds all adults (18-60 years old).
  2. Abstaining from meat during the entire day binds all without exception.

Paschal fast is an external expression of our effort to unite ourselves with Christ who, abandoned from everyone, suffers on the cross and submits his entire life to the hands of the Father. Giving up earthly life opens a way to eternal life.
